Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve Hiking Tour
Time to lace up your hiking shoes!
Discover the world’s only jaguar preserve as you hike through the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. With year-round balmy weather in Belize, you can enjoy hiking through the world’s most accessible and pristine jungles at just about any time of the year.
Travel through southern Belize as you journey to the Maya Center that marks the entrance to the world’s only jaguar preserve, the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. Enjoy shopping for souvenirs like hand-carved slate plaques, baskets, clothing, and jewelry made in the village by local Mayas.
Continue into the dense tropical rainforest of the Cockscomb Basin, which has a total protected area of over 120,000 acres. This sanctuary is home to jaguarundis, margays, ocelots, pumas, deer, howler monkeys, and tapirs. Jaguar and other wildcats are nocturnal so it is unlikely that you will see them, but you can spot fresh tracks while hiking in the Belize rainforest. Our guides will lead you through several nature trails, including one ending at Ben’s Bluff which has spectacular views of the entire basin and leads to a waterfall. Cool off with a much-deserved swim and soak in the river, and depending on the water level you may be able to river tube!
