Belize Independence Day: Be Part of "Proud and Free," Belize at 43!

If you live in the U.S., the chances of missing out on the nation’s annual independence celebration are almost impossible, because fireworks, patriotic celebrations, decorations, and tributes remain as meaningful as the day in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4th.

Northern neighbor Canada’s own annual commemorative celebration is held just three days earlier. On July 1, 1879, the "anniversary of Confederation," (renamed Dominion Day) gave that nation a reason to show off their maple-embellished symbols during what is now commonly referred to as Canada Day.

Why look back at these landmark dates with awe? Because not every nation in the Western Hemisphere was lucky enough to have found its own version of Independence Day hundreds of years ago. In Belize, for example, this long-awaited day didn't finally arrive until September 21, 1981. Is it any wonder that the nation of Belize celebrates with such enthusiasm every September, after waiting so long for independence?

What Belize’s Independence Day is all about

As the only British Colony in Central America, Belize’s separation from England may have been a long time coming, but citizens and visitors make the most of this holiday by stretching the party over several days, especially since September 21, 2024, falls on a Saturday.

During this patriotic holiday, carnivals, parties, parades, cultural and sporting events, and more will all take center stage under the umbrella theme: “A Nation Proud and Free: Belize at 43.” This theme was the brainchild of musician David Watson who said that he came up with his idea because it focuses on national pride.

You don’t have to live in Belize to be part of the fun. September is a terrific time to come down for the party—especially if you’d like to surround yourself with the nation's traditional music, food, and culture. You can check out costumes and immerse yourself in Soca, music that originated with African and East Indian rhythms. Need a place to stay that’s in the middle of the action? Make it Belizean Dreams Resort in laid-back Hopkins.

Celebrate any holiday you like on September 21, 2024!

If there’s a landmark birthday, anniversary, or another important event on your calendar, you can pair your Independence Day visit with your own celebration. Given so many activities being staged in and around Hopkins Village and in nearby towns, there are other reasons to choose Belizean Dreams as your destination, including Belize All Inclusive Package pricing that bundles the entirety of a getaway into one affordable price.

Pile on the savings by inquiring about availability between September and December and you could save even more on this celebratory getaway.
